A look at the musical roots and traditions of Naples, Italy, as well as its influence on the rest of the world. The film is aptly named, as it is a colorful celebration of Neapolitan music. Critics compare it to the quality and vibrancy of the Buena Vista Social Club.

Using the many-faced city of Naples as a whole other character, Director John Turturro shows his love of the diverse styles of music found there with sweeping vistas and color-drenched intimate close-ups of dancers and lovers and people on the street.

Watching the film we learn of the many influences old Neapolitan music has on African, Spanish, French, and Jazz. It will be all you can do to keep yourself from leaping out of your seat to dance.

As an added attraction, PASSIONE will be preceded by a live jazz concert, featuring the talented John Maestas and his group. The virtuoso guitarist has written some special music for this concert that ties nicely to the music of the film. Paul Palmer III, on drums, Colin Deuble, bass, Sam Reid on Alto sax and Dick Steichen, on accordion will perform with Maestas. The Italian accordion, added to the typical jazz combo, will make for a great evening of music and Italian culture.
